🎣 Local Flavor with Heart: The Story Behind The Black Pearl in Rangeley
Where Fly Fishing Heritage Meets Inspired Cuisine
When you stay at Huck’s Hideaway, you're not just escaping to the mountains—you’re stepping into a region rich with tradition, natural beauty, and deep-rooted family stories. One of our favorite local spots that captures all of that and more is The Black Pearl, a family-run restaurant right in the heart of Rangeley.
This isn’t just another place to grab a bite—it’s a culinary experience wrapped in the history of the Rangeley Lakes region. The restaurant’s name and logo are inspired by the legendary black pearl fly nymph, a subtle nod to the Cary family's deep connection to fly fishing and the traditions passed down through generations. It’s a beautiful blend of past and present, where every detail is intentional—just like the perfect cast on a still morning lake.
Co-owners Paul and Sue Cary, along with their daughter Laura and son-in-law Tyler Wilkinson, have created a space that feels both elevated and familiar. Tyler brings fine-dining experience from some of Rhode Island’s top restaurants, and it shows—from artfully prepared plates to a menu that’s warm, welcoming, and just a little unexpected.
Why we send our guests there:
- 🍽️ Delicious, creative dishes with something for everyone
- 🍷 Cozy yet classy atmosphere—perfect for date night or family dinner
- 🐟 A nod to the Rangeley spirit in every corner
- 👨👩👧👦 Family-owned and operated—with heart you can taste
So after a day hiking the area trails, kayaking on Haley Pond, or just relaxing at Huck’s, head into town and try The Black Pearl. It's more than a meal—it’s part of what makes Rangeley unforgettable.
